Call Topic: “Where Did Coaching Come From? The Players, the Roots & other Interesting Tidbits”
About the Call: Have you ever it said that the “roots” determine the “fruits?” It’s true, isn’t it? You can hang peaches or pomegrantes on a pecan tree all you like, and it will still only be a pecan tree.
It’s on the basis of this idea that Vikki Brock has spent the last year writing a dissertation on the history and evolution of coaching.
In it, she’s asked dozens of fascinating questions about our ‘ancestors’ as it were, and interviewed over 175 Key Influencers to put together the big-picture story of ‘The History of Coaching.’
Using surprising tidbits from her research, as well as diagrams such as the one above (click here to see the full-sized image) which outlines the Key Influencers in coaching, Vikki will share what the picture she has come up with.
If you think it would be help you be a better coach by understanding ‘where coaching sprang from?’ you wouldn’t be alone. I think that learning from our history, we can better create the future.
Register below to attend the Uncommon Conversation live and have the opportunity to ask questions. If you can’t attend live, post your thoughts/questions below and remember to come back to CoachingCommons.org where the recording will be posted for your listening pleasure.

Facilitator of this Uncommon conversation is Vikki Brock, MCC. Vikki is a dyed-in-the wool ‘Connector’ personality and as such has reveled in the connections she’s made through her dissertation. Her unique grasp of the ‘arc of the coaching story’ is such that one can hardly talk with her without it leading to handful of connections and at least one perfect introduction.
