Research Project: Executive Coaching Readiness Inventory
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to ask for your help with a research project involving an Executive Coaching Readiness Inventory. A colleague (Melinda Harper) of mine at Queens University of Charlotte and I developed an inventory and thought we had a sample population secured for the validation testing. The pilot study went very well and the instrument has a high degree of reliability. We need to test the validity. Well, as “things go”, we are no longer able to access the population of executives and their coaches for the validation study. That’s where this email and my request come in to the picture.
We believe this research is important for coaching as coaches, organizations, and individual coaching clients seek to determine if coaching is an appropriate intervention for individuals. This study is designed to assess the psychometric properties of an individual’s suitability for executive coaching using a “coachability scale” or “coaching readiness assessment” applied to middle and senior level executives engaged in a professional coaching relationship. We have not been able to identify any validated inventory/assessment designed for this purpose.
The study requires the following participants (middle, senior and executive levels) who will be coached on a regular (perhaps 2-3 times per month) by a professional coach who is willing to participate in an online pre-coaching survey (about 20-25 minutes long) and in an online survey (5-10 minutes long) after 2-3 months of coaching. It also requires that the participants’ coach complete an online survey (5-10 minutes long) after 2-3 months of coaching the client. Study participants will be offered an executive summary of the overall study results. Data will be reported on an anonymous basis for analysis and presentation and/or publication. Participation in the study is voluntary (no compensation provided) and participants may withdraw from the study at any point.
If you would like to know more about how you and your coaching clients, your organization, and/or others with whom you have contact may participate in this study, please let me know.
Thank you.
