The mission: To stand behind and beside the communities we partner with as we join in inspirational and transformational coaching conversations toward a path of sustainable growth and self-sufficiency. We will do this by using the coach approach to develop the capacity of local leaders to combat injustice, poverty, and other major challenges of community life.
Guiding Principles: Coaching the Global Village is a catalyst, providing coaching skills and consulting to our partners across the globe in NGOs. They train leaders, change agents, and local volunteers or organizations to accelerate and magnify their work by using the coach approach to empower creative and sustainable change.
About Dr. Williams: One of the early pioneers of coaching, Patrick Williams, MCC, began executive coaching in 1990. In 1998 he founded the Institute for Life Coach Training, an ICF Accredited Coach Training Program. He speaks worldwide on topics of living purposefully, coaching for global change, wellness coaching, and the coach approach in leadership. He has written dozens of articles and been interviewed on TV and radio.
Pat was awarded the first Global Visionary Fellowship by the Foundation of Coaching http://www.thefoundationofcoaching.org for his Coaching the Global Village project, a non-profit organization, to take the coach approach to developing villages on the planet.

Wow - Thank you Pat for an inspiring hour! Your vision for “coaching the global village” sparked the imagination of listeners, and caused a shift in conversation to a deep and powerful image of what coaching can mean to the planet. We are grateful for you and your vision!

Thanks I also learned from what came out of my mouth during the call :))
I am more energized that this idea can become a bigger reality
what I need:
Possible Board members from non Caucasian Cultures
Possible Funders, or grant possibilities
and names of Organizations here and abroad that could partner with CGV to bring coaching to the community residents and leaders

Awesome, Pat: May I be so bold and make a comment? Are you aware how you are “co-creating” this incredible vision? and how your need defines the field? Pat, not to get mushy, you personify spirituality in action, realizing the prayer of St. Francis by means of coaching. I have goose bumps still.
I love my age - 75 -, today I wished I’d be 30 years younger so that I could more fully join your vision. What I can do, however, is honor the profession of coaching being the best I can be, listen and assist in making the impossible possible. God, there is so much.
Thank you, Pat, for your ideas, energy, and compassion. With a loving heart, Helga

Comment by Ruth Maxwell on 11 June 2008:
I agree that coaching could well be the key to development, sustainability and accountability in contexts where the challenges are substantial because of the relational aspect of coaching.
Many of these cultures place a primary focus on relationships. Trust is not immediately offered but must be earned. Coming as an outsider has to be something that we accept about ourselves. The coach perspective thankfully assumes that we are not experts and that others have things to offer which go far beyond what we might have to offer as coaches.
Our cultural baggage often gets in the way and must be constantly recognized–but if we are willing to genuinely build relationships and in the context of relationship engage in coaching the potential will leave us stunned. I totally enjoy learning from insiders in another culture. Watching them find answers brings me great delight–but it takes constant discipline to not move even a coaching conversation beyond the pace they can handle.
It would be interesting to think through what organizational characteristics would ideally be true of npo’s that might fit this model. I like what I heard in the call and am grateful for Pat’s vision in this area. I’m on the front line doing this and was encouraged to find someone putting words to the vision of my heart and life.
Thanks Pat!!
Comment by Dave Wheitner on 12 June 2008:
Pat,
Thanks so much for organizing a mentally and spiritually enriching call!
As I mentioned in my message, I’m particularly excited because much of the topic matter overlaps with the book I just completed. In past work, I observed (and experienced) hopelessness and frustration in realms such as poverty research, economic development and environmental health. That’s part of what led me to coaching, so I know there’s a great level of need for such applications of the discipline.
It’s great to see others seeking ways to utilize powerful tools to catalyze positive change.
Best wishes,
Dave Wheitner, M.S., M.A.
