John Bennett - Senior Advisor

John BennettJohn L. Bennett is Chief Executive Officer of The Foundation of Coaching, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of coaching as a profession, and as a way of making a positive difference in the world through the lives of individuals.

He was an executive with the American Red Cross for 18 years, where he served as CEO of a biomedical services division. He has led pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution operations as well as the development and delivery of essential human services. John has led mergers and turnarounds as well as new product development/marketing and computer system designs/installations. In 1997 he left the Red Cross to form Lawton Associates, an organization development consulting and executive coaching firm that specializes in helping individuals and organizations prepare for, excel through, and improve from change.

In addition to his responsibilities with The Foundation of Coaching, John is a member of the faculty at Queens University of Charlotte, where he teaches organizational communication courses, including organization development, human resource development, coaching, and management consulting. He serves as chair of the Communication department and director of graduate studies in Organizational Communication.

John is author of numerous articles about building organizational resilience to change, coaching, communication, innovative team-based management, and leadership as well as two books: Leading the Edge of Change and The Essential Network. In 2005 and 2006, John co-edited the International Coach Federation’s Annual Coaching Research Symposium Proceedings.

John earned Masters Degrees in public administration and in human and organizational systems as well as a doctorate from Fielding Graduate University in human and organizational systems. He earned the Institute for Management Consultants, (IMC) Certified Management Consultant, (CMC) and the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential through the International Coach Federation (ICF).

John is actively involved in many academic and professional organizations including the Academy of Management, American Psychological Association, ICF, International Communication Association, IMC, and Organization Development Network. Currently, John is a member of the ICF’s Research and Education Committee and the Board of Directors of the Diversity Council of the Carolinas. He is a past-president of the Charlotte Area Chapter of the ICF.
